Kundli matching for marriage, with all 36 gunas explained

Compare two birth charts with the traditional Ashtakoota system. Your report shows where each of the 36 points was gained or missed, adds a separate Mangal (Manglik) check, and explains it all in plain language.

A paid report, reviewed by our team before it is prepared.

In your report

  • Total score out of 36, with its traditional band
  • All eight kootas, point by point
  • A separate Mangal (Manglik) check
  • What each theme means, in plain language
  • The conventions used, named in every report

How to read the total score

Tara’s report places the total in the commonly published bands.

  • Below 18Low
  • 18 to under 24Average
  • 24 to under 32Good
  • 32 to 36Excellent

A score is one traditional lens, not a verdict. Your report also shows which kootas scored well and where the charts differ, so the conversation can be about something more useful than a single number.

The decision always belongs to the two people involved.

The Mangal (Manglik) check

Separately from the 36 points, your report checks each chart for Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the ascendant, the traditional Manglik placements. When both charts are Manglik, the traditional cancellation is applied and noted.

Because this depends on the ascendant, both birth times are needed.

What you need

Have these ready for both people before you start.

  • Both dates of birth
  • Both birth times, as recorded. The Moon can change nakshatra within a single day, so both times are required.
  • Both birth cities
  • Which chart should be read as the groom’s, since this tradition reads the charts in order

Why scores can differ between tools

Guna Milan uses traditional lookup tables, and classical sources differ on some of them, and on exceptions such as Nadi and Bhakoot cancellations. That is why two websites can give the same couple different scores.

Tara follows a North Indian variant, shows the base score for every koota, and names its conventions in each report, so you always know what was used.

Frequently asked questions

How many gunas should match for marriage?

Traditionally, 18 of 36 is treated as the minimum, 24 or more as good and 32 or more as excellent. Many families also weigh the individual kootas, the Manglik check and, above all, the two people themselves.

What is Nadi dosha?

When both birth stars fall in the same nadi, the Nadi koota scores 0 of its 8 points. This is called Nadi dosha. Some traditions cancel it in specific cases; Tara’s report shows the base score and does not apply those cancellations.

What does Manglik mean?

A chart is traditionally called Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Tara checks this from the ascendant for both charts, and notes when both are Manglik, which traditionally cancels the concern.

Do both birth times need to be exact?

As close as possible. The Moon can change nakshatra within a single day, which changes several kootas, and the Manglik check depends on the ascendant.

Is Kundli matching free?

No. Kundli matching is a paid report, with the price shown in the app before you buy. If our team declines the request, or you cancel it while it is waiting, it goes back to your balance.

Can Kundli matching decide whether we should marry?

No. Guna Milan is one traditional framework for reflection. The decision belongs to the two people involved.
